Facing your Shadow on the Goddess Path

If you are on this feminine awakening or goddess path, you may be challenged by the fact that at times, it is not just about tuning into the light within. You may be noticing that if shadow aspects of yourself come to the surface, you feel you are somehow going backwards and not worthy of walking this path. This is due to societal expectations that we only show our “good” side. You may be filled with self judgement, deep self-criticism.The truth is this is an integral part of this path of rebirth.

It is an uncomfortable unravelling of the illusions, distortions, the false beliefs. It is about looking at light and dark and learning to be at home with both within. It sheds light on aspects of you that have remained hidden. The path is often very uncomfortable and it takes courage, commitment, trust and an ability to face the truth of who we are to allow us to navigate the process and truly evolve.

The Shadow

Our Shadow is the aspect of us we want to brush under the carpet, the fears, illusions, negative self talk that tell us we are not enough, not worthy. We hide this from others and deny it within ourselves. They are the parts of us that have been have shamed and that we ourselves shame.

It can be the aspect of us that wants to lash out in rage and may be ashamed as it is “too much”, “dramatic” and not in keeping with societal expectations of us. It is our deepest, darkest human urges, our deepest pains, insecurities, fears and self judgements. From a wounded feminine perspective, it can also be our deep distrust and competitiveness with other women, our sister wounds. Shadow can also take the form of manipulative behaviour on an emotional or sexual level to seek validation and love. It also includes feelings of victimhood as we project all our emotions onto others. These are taboos we dare not name. We do everything in our power to keep a lid on these distortions and shadows.Everybody has this within them and denying them creates tension and conflict within. Shadow unacknowledged will follow us around until we face it and embrace it. It has the power to control us until we go through a healing process of transformation.

There is also a tendency to project and blame others for our own shadow. It creates a vicious circle of toxicity both within ourselves, relationships and in the collective.

Triggers & Collective Shadow

Many are being deeply triggered by shadow playing out in the collective. All the violence, hate, unveiling of dark truths, is bringing our shadow to the surface. Instead of pointing fingers and going into blame, we need to take the opportunity to look within at our own distortions and unhealed pain. For example, many women are being deeply triggered by the sexual violence and suppression of women. The natural response is to lash out in anger and rage which is justified but a more empowering response would be to look within at the triggers, the wounds from masculine distortion that desperately need to be faced.

We must also look at how, we too, as women may also be contributing to this masculine distortion in the world. Otherwise, we are adding fuel to fire and this is not the way forward towards peace or inner unity. The outer demons are often a reflection of our own inner demons that need to be faced. Healing our masculine & feminine distortions and allowing the root of these shadow aspects to be acknowledged will create positive ripples in the collective consciousness of humanity.

Sacred Descent as Integration of Shadow

The story of Innana or Ishtar and her journey into the city of the dead is an ancient Sumerian myth, a metaphor for our descent into our shadow. She must journey into the underworld, the domaine of her sister, Ereshkigal to conquer the underworld. At each of the 7 gates, she needs to shed. She must strip away ego, her false self, the identities that are not her true self, her power, her wealth. She must arrive naked before her sister Ereshkigal. She must face death before being reborn. She must kneel down, naked and raw before the dark goddess and face herself. In doing so, she retrieves her full power.

Our own descent into shadow allows us to come face to face in the same way with the dark goddess, with our wounds. We come face to face with roles we played in this life and other lifetimes that were distorted. We need to take full responsibility for how we may have been the perpetrators of violence and destruction. We must befriend our inner dark goddess as an integral aspect of us. It is not comfortable to face but necessary so we are more at home with ourselves. It is a process of destruction or collapse before rebirth as the Hindu Goddess Kali represents. There is no hiding from it, there is no quick fix that allows us to sidestep this. It is a necessary process and empowering process to confront our own shadow and unearth the power underneath it. In doing so we find the treasure that we have been seeking our whole lives.

Womb Awakening & Integrating Shadow

Womb Awakening takes you on a journey of descent into your sacred womb. This is a multidimensional gateway to your soul. A Shamanic womb divination journey into the galactic space of the womb is a powerful, embodied descent to seek radical truth and healing.

It allows the dissolution of shadow that may have affected you in this life. We access feminine source light, a potent nurturing light that helps us to heal our deepest wounds. It is a space of deep truth where you tap into your inner wisdom and allow layers of distortion, false beliefs, illusions to be dissolved. It is also a space where we can look at past lives that left negative imprints that still affect us in this life. We can cut ties with ancestral wounds that have followed us. These are passed on in our paternal and maternal lines. We can allow truth to surface also around the root cause of many of our fears, the challenges we face in our relationships and in our day to day lives. We must allow destruction to take place to birth a new version of ourselves. However, being spiritually mature helps when opening to and integrating these truths. This is key for transformation.

Mary Magdalene as a Towering Support

Mary Magdalene, a powerful priestess and spiritual teacher is a towering support as we journey into our shadow. She too was tested by shadow as she lived on Earth. She faced shame, rejection and had to face her demons to fully realise her gifts. She made her descent in order to fully integrate her power and become The “anthropos” fully human and divine. She is our guide leading us into the dark as we work through the layers that need to be shed. Through her example, we can face our deepest shadow with compassion and not flinch. It also helps us to look with deeper compassion at the shadow in the world and not judge. This level of deep excavation leads to the treasure within us as we learn to accept and be at home with ourselves. We become comfortable with the most authentic version of ourselves, embracing our light and dark. Without this level of authenticity, we cannot truly rise into our full feminine power.
